Please join us on Sunday, July 18 at 4 pm for our annual Tisha b’Av program. As we reflect on the losses Jews have suffered as a persecuted and displaced people many times over, we honor our obligation to help and connect with people who suffer these tragic losses today and are seeking refuge at our borders. Join us for an introspective hour to mourn and to heed the call to ‘welcome the stranger.’
This year we will meet on the steps in front of the offices of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services Field Office in Santa Ana for a program of song, poetry and readings. Bring signs, posters, hats, water, sunscreen and something soft to sit on.
DONATION DRIVE: Through July 23rd we are collecting new and gently used (in working condition) children’s analog watches. These watches will be donated to the refugee children seeking asylum in the U.S who are currently stuck in Tijuana living in dire conditions and attend one of two NESTS organized by PILAGlobal. The Nests offer a peaceful refuge from the overcrowded living conditions that families endure as they wait for their immigration interviews at the U.S. border.
Please visit our Amazon Wishlist to purchase a child’s watch to donate or bring your donation with you to the We Cannot Walk Alone event on July 18th
Tisha b’Av is an annual day of remembrance for Jewish people to recall the events that led to the destruction of the First and Second temples in Jerusalem and cast Jews out of their homes to become refugees. It falls on the 9th day of the month of Av, or tisha b’Av. Click here for a list of additional tragic events that fell on Tisha b’Av over the centuries.
